How to get the most out of your nutrition…
1 Eat a good serving of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. They are a great source of vitamins, minerals and fibre so will make you feel full.
2 Drink more water.
Aim to start with 2 more glasses per day than you drink now.
3 Plan ahead. Plan out the meals you will have over the week.
4 Buy lots of yummy healthy food that you ENJOY.
If you have good food in the cupboards you won’t have so much temptation to snack on less healthy choices!
5 Make your own lunch for work and take it with you.
Taking time to prepare in advance is the key here!
6 Find ways to reduce your total fat consumption that don’t make you feel like you’re depriving yourself. (e.g. think of choosing low fat options)
7 Aim to eat more natural food and less processed food. Learn about the GI index and eat lower GI foods such as kumera and grainy breads which will give you long lasting sustained energy.
8 Eat regular small meals throughout the day. This will help to maintain your blood sugar levels at a steady rate so you don’t feel as hungry.
9 Watch your portion sizes & stop eating once you have had enough.
It is easy to eat second helpings simply out of habit.
Your body takes 10 minutes to recognise it is full so take a pause after a meal to recognise if you are already full!
10 Brush your teeth straight after dinner.
This will signal to your brain that you have finished eating for the night
11 And always remember there is no such thing as bad food!
Its just all about keeping everything in balance!
